it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Young children learn how to interpret the world through experiential learning, which they call play. They are able to recreate what they imagine into real life. They role play with each other, tell and recreate stories they have both heard and imagined, and extend each others thinking into a magical world around them. They are spontaneous in their play; whether it be in the housekeeping area, the art area, or the combining of different manipulatives to create an entirely new activity. Their imaginations know no bounds.
Young children don’t follow a schedule of when it’s time to play versus when it’s time to work; their work is their play!
The materials in this project will give my students opportunities to role play both real and fantastical stories that they create in their play. Included in this project are opened ended materials that are flexible in their nature to become multiple things. My students are both learning about the world and processing their ever changing life experiences. It is always helpful to me to remember they have only been here for four or five years and everything is still so new to them. The way they understand their world is to replay it through play.
The experiences they have in pre-k, truly are the foundation for all of their future learning. This is the year where they experience so many firsts. I want as many of these experiences to be stepping stones for future inquiry and exploration. These materials will give my students opportunities for imaginative play, simple coding, mathematical computation through the use of manipulatives, and artistic activities to help lay those foundational stones.
