My school is a unique school in that we have 840 K-2 (Kindergarten, first and second grade) students in one building. We are the only primary building in our district. Since our community is changing, how we reach out to families needs to change. Literacy learning is paramount since it lays the foundation for all other learning. Many of my students come from low-income households. Despite their many challenges, my students always come to school with smiles on their faces and are eager to learn new things!
We know physically active students learn better.
Physical movement is something that is lacking from many households. We want to create opportunities to further develop social emotional skills, provide brain breaks and encourage a healthy, physical lifestyle.
My Project
Our K-2 kiddos need to move and play to do their very best learning. Our students have lots of energy and wonderful little brains which do best in small sessions of traditional classroom learning with play-based learning opportunities spread throughout the day. Our students get multiple recesses which they love.
This time of the year, our equipment is getting well used, the addition of these items would bring some extra excitement to our playgrounds!
In this grant we are requesting sports balls for organized games, parachutes, jump ropes and ball games. These items are versatile enough to do larger scale organized games or used with just a few students at a time.
