My Students

As a teacher in a Title I school with students who come from low-income or high poverty homes, my students are faced with challenges in and outside of the classroom. All of the students in my class receive free breakfast and lunch at school. Sometimes these meals are all that they may get for the day. Some of the students in my classroom live in shelters, motels, or are living with family members or friends.

There are 9 students in my classroom with moderate to severe disabilities who come to school every day with the biggest and brightest smiles on their faces.

My classroom is specially structured to meet their needs. We strive to provide a full educational experience for all students, incorporating social skills, community skills, and functional skills into our daily routines.

My Project

Every moment in my classroom is a learning moment. My students are always learning, even when they don't think they are! My students have been building with older blocks and stacking them into a giant tower.

This might looks like play time to some, but to me, this is my students working together as a team, sharing materials, and using their fine motor skills.

My students need new blocks and a play tool box so that they can practice their fine motor skills while building and repairing large towers. They also need a play cash register to learn math skills while they are playing with their play food set. When they are using the magnetic drawing board and Crayola mess free coloring kit, they will be able to practice writing and coloring. I want my students to have fun while they learn and these materials will help them to be successful!
