Play and Express Yourself

Help me give my students the opportunity to explore difficult feelings and communicate what goes on in their lives through play and games. The Hape dollhouse and dolls will give them an opportunity to do this.

My Students

I am an elementary school guidance counselor. I work with students from grades K-5 with a range of different needs and disabilities. Many of my students are learning social skills. Other students are learning how to manage big emotions such as anger and sadness. Overall, I strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment where my students social and emotional needs are met so they can reach their full potential at school.

My office is a safe place for students to practice social skills, learn coping skills to help manage their emotions and above all explore, create and learn about themselves through play, art activities, and discussion.

My Project

I counsel students in grades K-5. A lot of the work revolves around expressing feelings and learning coping skills to manage big emotions. Play is an essential part of counseling.

Shiny new games such as Connect Four and Trouble are a wonderful way for students to work on developing social skills.

Students need to learn how to take turns, compromise and win or lose gracefully. New games will help them do that. Students express their feelings through play. The Hape dollhouse and dolls are wonderful tools to facilitate this play. Students can act out their feelings in a non-confrontational way.

In my counseling office we also play a lot of games as this helps develop and build social skills. Much of the games in my office now are old and broken and missing pieces. I know the students will appreciate new games.
