My Students

Help us make Earth Day every day! Recycling is not a focus at my school and I want to instill a sense of stewardship for the earth in my students. I want them to realize how important, easy, and fun caring for the planet can be.

My students are a fantastic group of honest, helpful, and giving students.

They are generous with hugs and want to learn new things. Those new things may not always be part of the curriculum, but we make the most of all "teachable moments." They overcome many challenges to come to school and learn every day. I want to give them the richest education I can.

My Project

I am requesting resources to implement several fun, hands-on recycling projects in my class. I would like a worm composter to help reduce the amount of food waste and we will be able to use the compost in our class garden. I have also requested a recycling bin to recycle plastic items. We currently do not recycle plastic at my school and I would like my students to lead the effort to start a plastic recycling program. I will take the items to the recycling center. I also have requested a kit that repurposes old newspapers into a fun building kits. Finally, I requested a few non-fiction books so that I can also support the importance of recycling in reading class. All of these resources will inspire my students to recycle and reuse items for the rest of their lives. I want them to see that recycling is important but also fun and exciting. I will reuse these supplies for many years with many classes.

Sadly, recycling is not a focus of our curriculum; however, it is so important to instill this in students early.

I want to incorporate this into my classroom to help create future environmentalists that will conserve and protect the earth. This project may be one of the only opportunities they have to learn this information in elementary school. Many of the students will not learn about recycling and repurposing at home. By supporting this project, you are creating a great future.
