My Students

I serve the self-contained classes at our middle school, as well as the deaf and hard-of-hearing students in the district. My caseload covers students from Pre-K to 12th grade at all six of our schools plus the alternative and virtual schools within the district. The self-contained classes are made up of students with a variety of disabilities such as autism, learning, and intellectual disabilities, Down Syndrome, etc.

Due to their disabilities, it is hard to find resources that are both age-appropriate and on their individual levels.

They are hard workers and try their best in school. These students are eager learners.

My Project

We recently received a plant light so we could have plants in our classroom. My students are a part of the Garden Club at school but since we do not have a window in our classroom we have been unable to have plants until now. They are excited about the one plant my mom gave to us.

Plants are extremely beneficial to classrooms from cleaner air to stress relief.

They will provide teaching opportunities that will extend beyond botany and academics. My students will learn skills that will help them obtain a job after graduation as they learn how to properly care for a variety of plants. Having plants to care for will also provide a therapy of sorts as they learn ways to manage their behavior, anxiety, anger, and more through positive outlets.
