Plants! Animals! Wind! Science All Around Me

Help me give my students the hands-on science supplies they need to master all the kindergarten science standards.

My Project

My Kindergarten students are curious about the world around them. At our school, we have a farm right next door that I can take the students to. This provides the perfect opportunity to teach hands-on science lessons. Using the curriculum Mystery Science, my students get to learn about animals, plants, weather, light, and force through interactive lessons.

With the materials in this project, my kindergarten students will be able to master all their science standards through fun hands-on lessons!

For our plants unit, my students will each get to watch their own sunflower grow. They will use sunflower seeds, soil, biodegradable pots, and water in spray bottles to plant and grow their own sunflowers. The baggies will help to distribute the materials and the plastic spoons will help each kid scoop their soil into the pots.

For our weather unit, my students will create "breeze buddies" using pipe cleaners and paper streamers. I will use sticky labels to label each student's custom designed kit (made of paper streamers) and then they hang up in the classroom. Every time it is windy, the students can look at their breeze buddy to watch the wind's energy.

For our animals unit, my students will get to custom make their own bird's nest. They will use scissors to cut up cotton balls, yarn, tissue paper, and paper box filler to build their own bird's nest inside the paper bowls. When their nest is complete, they will finish it by putting three eggs (pom poms) inside.

For our force unit, the students will get to save a tiny town from being destroyed by a boulder (bouncy balls and tennis balls). This will be created with corrugated cardboard, push pins, binder clips, and masking tape.

All of these supplies will be stored safely in storage bins!
