This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am so happy to be teaching in person again! Teaching virtually last year was not fun because we couldn't do hands-on activities or cook in Science class.

Every year, when we are exploring the plant cycle and soil layers, I tell my students that they are going to "eat dirt" and they all yell out, "Whatttt?!" When I show them the food items, though, they are like, "Coool!" and suddenly I am the BEST TEACHER EVER again, LOL.

To culminate our lesson on soil layers, I have the kids make and eat "edible" soil. I use Oreos as the bedrock, butterscotch pudding as the subsoil, chocolate pudding as the topsoil, green icing as the grass, and finally, we stick a gummy worm on top!

Looking at the list, all of these foods along with the tools to prepare them are there. I would appreciate it if you would help me bring this Science project to fruition! It is so fun for the kids, and that is important during a difficult year.
