My Students

As a teacher in a high poverty school, my students come to school with many challenges no child should ever have to face. While I can not control their home lives, I can try my best to make their school day a successful experience.

Our school is a Title I school of focus located in an inner-city in North Carolina.

All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. For the 2017-2018 school year, we've received a D on our school report card; however, our school met academic growth from the previous year. I know my students can continue the trend of academic growth. With the proper tools, they will be unstoppable. My students will become the successful individuals I know they can be not only within the classroom, but within the community as well. Please consider making a donation to some very deserving students.

My Project

My students are currently participating in the construction of a community garden in our school neighborhood. I wanted to share a book with my students that would connect their participation in the garden to literature and Seedfolks was the perfect fit. After reading the novel Seedfolks, my students will be able to make connections between the text and their participation in the community garden. They will see how community gardens bring people together.

Reading this novel will inspire my students to continue to connect with their community through gardening.

Sharing this novel with my students will inspire my students to make changes for the better.
