Help me give my students learn to be self sufficient by learning to grow and harvest plants that they can eat and plants that can be used for native traditional means.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
With this project, I am hoping to help my STEM students learn about growing and harvesting foods they can eat and herbs that are used for healing and staying healthy.

With the AeroGardens, seed starting kits, and books, students will learn to feed themselves. With these kits, the students will see and learn how to grow plants via hydroponics and they can they take a few, plants home after they have sprouted and possibly start their own garden. Since FRESH foods taste better than processed foods, I also hop this will encourage students to try new foods that they may not currently have in their diets. In addition to that, the majority of my students are from low income homes and healthy, organic food are not always the most cost efficient, so they may not have a choice but to eat what is affordable. And the more affordable food sources are not the healthiest.
Learning about plants, starting with the AeroGarden, will lead into learning about farming and many aspects of farming, such as using drones to view the fields and even how irrigation systems are now controlled by computers and apps. It really opens up a new world ... a HEALTHIER NEW WORLD!
