This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
We live in Oklahoma, where tending to a garden outside can be a lot of work. The temperatures go from one extreme to another, and it is hard to see the full life of a plant when gardening outside, when you cannot tend to it constantly. Using hydroponics to grow plants will help students be able to see the full life cycle right in the classroom.
Studies have found that K-12 students' concentration , focus , and test scores improve when they have plants in the classroom.
I believe that it helps to create a calmer learning environment for students as well as creates lessons that they can take with them for the rest of their lives. We will study the plants, monitor their growth, and eat the food that they create.
Many of the students that I have in class do not eat fresh fruits and vegetable. They eat a lot of processed foods. This will introduce them to different foods, and hopefully they can take what they used home to create their own gardens.
