My Project

Hello! My name is Olivia, students call me Miss "O" and I am a first year 7th grade science teacher at my middle school. I have decided to do a fun Terrarium project with a group of students (20-30) for our School Without Walls (sWoW) week. During this time period, students will be learning/doing activities not related to regular curriculum to break up the monotony of school!!!

Since we have been deeply exploring our new lesson "Earth is Rock", I felt that there is no better way for the students to understand the material then to create their own worlds!

I want students to understand the way rocks, soil, plants and water all function together by allowing them to get creative and build their own beautiful planet!

I plan on using the succulents that I have requested to help students build their own personal terrariums. Though I know it is a large quantity, I wanted students to plant some of them around our campus and help beautify our school community. My goal is to give students an opportunity to make something meaningful and make a difference. I have always felt that the best way to understand is to create, explore, and do hands on learning!
