Plant a Seed - Student Accessible Gardens and Learning Station

My students need two elevated beds to support their learning on food production and business.

My Students

Plants and Gardening is included in technology and science with many hands on activities in the school. Students learn about the role of food in their life and local economy. They span from seed to plant and having these raised gardens with accessibility would allow for all students to participate.

Our public school serves a diverse population from urban to suburban students.

The school provides many opportunities to grow and gain experiences that may not be provided elsewhere for our students. Our teachers and administration strive to bring relevant learning through strong instruction and unique activities such as this one. Our students understand the importance of their education and work to reach their teachers expectations in the classroom.

My Project

The elevated stations will be installed into an open courtyard area with access for teachers. The raised beds will allow teachers to have a place to put plants that students have grown in the hydroponics labs or release their earthworms from their composting units. They will serve as instructional lab stations and areas of interest for students.

This investment will allow for ongoing instruction and use in the school and allow for more inclusive participation for students unable to reach lower garden beds.

Students will be able to connect the cycle of what they are learning in their classes and watch their impact on the immediate environment. This experience will help them in their knowledge of science and technology. We also hope they will take these skills and start a home garden or a community garden in their neighborhood.
