My students need 12 Astronomy books, including "There's No Place like Space!; All about Our Solar System" and "Planets, Stars, and Galaxies: A Visual Encyclopedia of Our Universe".
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Tilley's classroom raised $237

I am the librarian in an inner city K-7 Expeditionary Learning school. Expeditionary Learning (EL) is a method of instruction that emphasizes high achievement through active learning, character growth and teamwork. Expeditions are in-depth studies that address a topic or theme. Our school is the best performing elementary school in the city and our teachers and students worked hard to get there.
My sixth graders recently received a donation of a beautiful giant telescope from our local science museum. They decided to house the telescope in the library (for lack of a better space) and now I have many many students interested in the planets, stars, and space. My problem is that my astronomy section of the library is extremely limited and the few books I do own on the subject are completely out-of-date.
I would love to offer my students some new, current books on planets and galaxies and space. I have chosen hard cover books that will stand the test of time and not fall apart over the years. Every year, I always have a few students who want to learn all they can about space. This year, with the addition of our new telescope, I know I'll have more students than ever who will want to know "more".
I would love to be able to offer my students the books they want in the library. These books not only will be used by the students this year, but by students who come to the library for years to come. Having a book with current information in priceless and watching children enthusiastically look at the pictures of a new book while reading and learning makes my job a joy. Thank you for considering this project.
