This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
After the first few months of school, it is clear that our freshman class has two options: plan or perish.
I am an academic guidance counselor for freshman at a charter high school. Our student population is at-risk and Latino/African-American.
"What homework?" is the common refrain among our students, to which the teachers reply "The homework that was on the board." Our students are in desperate need of a quick and easy way to write down and view their homework assignments for the week.
With the addition of planners, not only would our students have an easy means of viewing homework but our teachers would also easily be able to follow-up with students on assignments they have written down or not written down.
As a beginning Charter school with a college going culture, we want to emphasize the importance of getting organized as a step on the road to college. With your support, our students will take a few more steps forward towards a college degree.
