My students need place value discs, cubes, student packs, teaching kit, and workshop games to help deepen their understanding of our numeric system and markers, pencils, crayons, and other colored writing utensils for annotating their work.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
By the end of the school year, I want to ensure I have done everything and anything possible to help my students meet success. Success in my classroom would be meeting proficiency on all of the math skills covered in the 4th grade Common Core Standards.
My students are 4th graders who live in Baltimore, Maryland.
Our school has a very diverse population composed of 60% African Americans, 30% Latino/Hispanic and 10% Caucasians. Our school is Title One, with over 90% participating in free and reduced lunch programs.
My Project
My students will use the Place Value Disks to help visualize place value, expanded notation and more! These are also great for building and decomposing numbers. We will also model addition and subtraction using the disks, giving students a chance to practice some hands-on decomposing/regrouping!
The Hands on Place Value Kit will help boost place value skills as students build multi-digit numbers and identify whole numbers from one to millions. Additionally, these resources will help student master comparing numbers, reading and whole numbers, addition, subtraction and more!
The Place Value Cubes and Folder Game Library will be used during workshop time to help students have some independent time to practice their place value skills independently and in small groups.
The markers, colored pencils and crayons will help students annotate their work and explain their thinking. It is also a way for students to revise their own and each others' work.
Having these materials will help because I can provide students with multiple strategies for understanding our place value system.
In theory, the students can self-select the strategy that helps them the most and continue to use that strategy to navigate our place value unit. Additionally, the workshop games will help provide meaningful practice to students so I am able to provide small group instruction to struggling students.
