Help me give my students simple math manipulatives to supplement the loss of learning from Covid and other illnesses. I am needing base ten blocks and magnetic tens frames to teach and deepen their knowledge of place value.

My Students

My students come from a small, rural community where sixty-one percent receive free or reduced-price lunches. Over the past five years, the city of Kirksville has seen an influx of migrant workers coming in from the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Many speak French as their first language. As a result, the Kirksville School District has seen a sharp increase in English-Language Learner students. Despite their hardships, my students are growing and learning every day.

My 2nd graders are coming off a hard 18 months.

Their families are struggling and teachers are working hard to get their students back to grade-level when it comes to academics.

My class needs math manipulatives to help with number sense.

My Project

I am asking for simple manipulatives that are hands-on and can support my students to learn more and deeper their understanding of number sense. I will use these particular items in small and large group settings.

The magnetic base ten pieces will help my students learn the value of 2 and 3 digit numbers.

Manipulatives are engaging and make learning more concrete.

The 10 frame cards will further their math skills knowledge by providing them with magnetic circles they can count and manipulate.

Although these skills are 1st grade, I am noticing my students need more practice with place value.
