Place-based STEM Learning Using Micro:bits

Help me give my students the real-world experience of data collection and coding. These Micro:bit computers, IoT expansion boards, and Octopus sensors will allow my students to code sensors to collect local climate data.

My Project

My diverse students living on the edge of Blackfeet Tribal Lands in Northern Montana are not often exposed to the skills needed to follow STEM career paths. While our students are resilient in facing many challenges, they often lack the resources to pursue chosen career paths.

Collecting local climate data with Micro:bits and sensors helps to connect STEM education to the harsh and beautiful land that shapes our lives.

As our local climate changes, our community faces drought and prolonged fire seasons.

Making sense of these real-world problems helps our young people find solutions to the current challenges they face.
