To begin, students coded a few simple programs, such as a flashing heart and a dice game. We used the radio feature to simulate how fireflies will sync the pattern of their flashes. Students also utilized the built-in temperature sensor and data logger to collect temperature data from various surfaces, investigating which types of surfaces may contribute to urban heat islands. Now that my students are becoming familiar with using Micro:bits, we will begin using more complex code to integrate IoT expansion boards and multiple sensors to collect and analyze local weather data.\r\nStudents are impressed by the endless possibilities that the Micro:bit offers in terms of games, communication, data collection, and sensor technologies. They really appreciate the variety of sounds a Micro:bit can produce. Additionally, there are some students who aren't usually very engaged that light up when they get to code Micro: Bits. When I fill in at our Maker Space, I have been bringing Micro:bits for the middle school students to explore. This project has given me an easy and creative way to integrate computer science and sensor technologies into my science curriculum. The impact has been remarkable and rewarding to experience.","fullyFundedDate":1752678415313,"projectUrl":"project/place-based-stem-learning-using-microbi/9396782/","projectTitle":"Place-based STEM Learning Using Micro:bits","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hinkle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9700093"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78474","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":198,"numTeachers":15,"percentFrplEligible":58,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":46,"percentIndigenous":35,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":42.9,"schoolId":78474,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cut Bank High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cut Bank High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/montana/cut-bank-school-district-15/cut-bank-high-school/78474"}
