This project will have such a powerful impact on the students by providing them with place-based learning materials. It has been studied and proven that students are more successful when they are able to relate to the topic of the lesson. There is a need for more Alaska and place-based curriculum within the schools of Alaska, especially those with large Alaska Native student populations.
By providing the students with academic books based on Alaska and Indigenous cultures, we can help set them up for success!
These books will allow students to engage their prior knowledge within each lesson to help them better understand the skills being taught. Each book will help teachers and students alike to implement place-based learning in our school.
