Help me give my students the Lego community people set, farm set, wild animal set, world people set and bulk set of building pieces to encourage their creativity within the classroom.
At our school, we firmly believe that all children, no matter what their cognitive levels are, have the capacity to learn. Through this belief, we as teachers are constantly finding creative and new learning approaches to help our students be successful.
This year, I am working with twenty amazing 4-year-old preschool students attending our full day preschool program.
These students are either attending preschool for the very first time or transitioning from half-day to full day. The students come from various cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds which lends itself to a diverse classroom environment. The students also have different learning preferences whether it is visual, kinesthetic, or auditory.
Regardless of their backgrounds and their learning preference, all of the students are eager to learn and explore their world around them. My goal is to give them as many tools as possible to become active and engaged learners. The past year has been fantastic! My students have been so excited receiving items that we have had funded through DonorsChoose.org. I love seeing the excitement on their faces as they explore new materials that help enhance our learning program. We are always grateful when a project gets funded!
Science is often an overlooked content area especially in early childhood. I would like to use Lego building sets to foster future engineers and builders. My students learn through play and will benefit from the hands on experience Legos bring them. The creative brick set will allow them to build anything that their imagination can think of. The farm set, wild animals set, world people, and community helpers set will help enhance their imagination and encourage their building skills. The world people help to support the culturally diverse community we have within our classroom.
Using their imagination and building skills fosters learning in science, math as well as social emotional learning.
The students expand their knowledge of science and math with the buildings they create. They learn to take turns, share and compromise when working on group activities like building with Legos.
