My Students

Our school currently serves approximately 600 students, 500 whom qualify for free/reduced price lunch. We have a wide variety of academic, artistic, and athletic talents at our school. We currently have approximately 50-60 athletes who faithfully commit their time after school to perfecting their athletic talents through practice, training, and research.

While programs after school are limited, students highly value after school athletic time.

Students build camaraderie and respect for each other, which lowers the levels of bullying and conflict during the instructional time because of the athletic relationships built during practices and games.

My Project

The pitching machine that our school is interested in is special to our team because of the democratic process in which it was selected.

Our team took pride in doing the research, proposing ideas, weighing out the pros and cons of their selection, and eventually voting.

With this pitching machine, screen, and bat our softball team will have more time to practice their sport rather than moving equipment for the sport. I will be able to place students in small groups to practice on specific techniques where they can rotate through specific drills. This will also help with practicing both offense and defense skills.

Players involved in sports generally improve their self-esteem, build confidence, reduce stress, and are more resistant to social pressure.
