Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am writing this proposal for my high school students who participate in our music program. Our high school serves a large urban area and has a high percentage of students from low income homes. Our student body is culturally diverse and provides our school community an opportunity to experience languages and customs from many cultures as we interact every day.
Many of my students do not have the opportunity to explore and experience high quality music instruction outside of the school setting.
It is exciting to see them grow in their knowledge and excitement of music. Many of our students will continue their participation in the music program for 3 or 4 years of high school.
My Project
The Male Choir is going to perform "The Pirate Song" at our next concert. The piece presents a whimsical portrayal of pirates as they sing about things that are important to them. The items that we are requesting will be used as props for our performance. Incorporating them into our presentation will help my students connect to the funny scenes that are set up in the music. The flag poles and pirate flags will be used to create a "Les Misérables" moment during the music. The eye patches, bandannas, and party pack will be distributed to the choir to choreograph and stage the song for a memorable concert experience.
