Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In my class, I try to make chemistry relevant to the lives of my students. What better way to do that, then for them to get hands-on experience using equipment they've only ever seen on TV.
My students are amazing kids who, for the most part, juggle school, sports and jobs to help support their families.
Many of them come from homes where English is not spoken and making ends meet is the first priority. They come to school and try their hardest in the hope that they will be able to live the American dream of their parents.
My Project
We will use the micro-pipets, tips, pH meter and red cabbage indicator for a number of labs that I am creating. One of which will require serial dilutions of an acid and a base using the pipets and pH testing using the pH meter. The storage bin shelves are necessary to organize our labs and to make it easier for students to access the equipment we need for the experiments we do weekly.
This equipment will make my students feel like they are a 'real scientist'.
To be able to use micro-pipets and pH meters, which they've only seen on shows like CSI, will give them the confidence to pursue a science-related career.
