This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students in my Crafts and Ceramics I and II classes come from a low socioeconomic and underprivileged environment. The majority of my classes are made up of tenth to twelfth grade, male and female students of African American and Hispanic descent. Living in the city environment that surrounds them, students channel all of their demographics into the art they create in my classes.
My students come to school each day knowing they get a chance to relieve the stresses and triumphs they are faced within their home lives.
Even before entering my classroom, students are eager, excited, and ready to get creative! Many come during their lunch to continue working on projects and some even stay after school!
My Project
One thing students have asked me in previous years is to make pins in Art Club. At that time I had an old larger pin machine that was found in a closet in one of our districts buildings. There were pins in the box from the districts art show from '83-'84! It was very old and ended up having parts missing so we were never able to actually make any new pins. Getting a new pin making machine would allow for students to make their own unique pins that they could wear on their backpacks or on their clothes.
Another way we can utilize this awesome pin making machine is to have Art Club make pins that we could sell to raise money for trips or other art supplies needed to sustain the club.
Smaller 1 inch pins are a favorite among teens now a days and having this machine would be a great way for them to display their own art and ideas.
More than half of students from low‑income households
