My PreK3 students are some of the most amazing children I have ever met. They live in one of the most dangerous communities in our nation's capital. Every day they walk down a hill to school where they are able to escape the violence that riddles their neighborhood. They attend a Title I school where 100% of the population receives free lunch. Despite all of the challenges they face outside the school walls, they still come to school each day ready and excited to learn.
My Project
Preschool is a time for students to not only learn social skills and school routines, it is also the foundation of their academic skills as well. One of the most crucial skills for a three year old to learn is how to write and properly hold their writing tool.
These tweezers and sorting kits will teach them the proper grip while having to sort balls into tubes.
Students will have to use a proper finger grip, the same one they use to grasp a pencil, to use the tweezers in order to pick up the colored balls. They will then be able to sort the balls into tubes. While we practice proper finger grip and writing every day, this is a fun activity outside of writing that will help to teach students the proper finger grip.
