My students need three dimensional art materials such as plaster, acrylic paint, Crayola Model Magic, Crayola Dough and Sargent Sculpt-It air-hardening clay.
Remember creating your first 3D piece of art using clay in elementary school? You couldn't wait to run home and show it off to your family! Most of my students have not had the opportunity to create art using clay. I want my students to create art using many different types of media this year.
Our school is an urban public school with little funding for the arts.
Our school has 19 homerooms ranging from kindergarten to 8th grade.
I teach 30 art classes a week. My students LOVE art! This is the first time they have had an art teacher in a few years. They are so eager to learn about new artists and techniques. Many of my students have never used anything other than crayons and markers to create art.
My Project
My students need three dimensional art materials such as plaster, acrylic paint, Crayola Model Magic, Crayola Dough and Sargent Sculpt-It Air-Hardening clay. The older students will use the Plastr Craft and acrylic paint to create masks. I have a class set of plastic face molds; all we need is the plaster! The students will research uses for masks in other cultures and their own. They will use the information they find to design and create their own!
In the younger grades, we will be able to use the model magic to create models of animals and characters from stories we read in class. Model magic will enable my students to experience color mixing in a different context to bring life to their sculptures.
The Crayola Dough and Self Hardening clay will allow students to make small bowls, mugs and pinch pots to take home.
Your donations will make three dimensional art a reality for my students.
They will have the opportunity to explore visual art in a new way. The 3D art materials will provide my students with a new outlet for self expression. Working with these new materials will enable my students to enhance their creative thinking and problem solving skills.
