My Project

Our third graders are bursting with excitement and curiosity as we dive into our Botany and Birds units at the start of each school year. Their eyes light up as they explore plant types, carefully dissect flowers, and observe how xylem defies gravity to deliver water to the highest leaves and branches. These discoveries spark countless questions and connections, and as teachers, my partner and I are always seeking ways to deepen this learning through the arts.

Watercolor painting offers a powerful way to extend and enrich our students’ understanding.

The fluid, expressive nature of watercolor invites creativity, strengthens fine motor skills, and encourages emotional expression. As students explore blending, layering, and brush techniques, they also build patience, resilience, and a willingness to embrace mistakes as part of the process. This multisensory experience supports diverse learning styles and helps students connect more deeply with academic content in a joyful and meaningful way.

This project will provide us with the essential materials to create art that is beautifully aligned with our thematic units throughout the year. High-quality watercolor paper, in particular, makes a noticeable difference—transforming student work from soggy, wrinkled pages to vibrant, expressive pieces they are proud to share. When students see their paintings come to life on real watercolor paper, their confidence grows, and their sense of ownership in learning soars. These materials will empower our students to not only understand the world around them but to express their discoveries with pride, creativity, and joy.
