My Project

Our 2nd graders love the Elephant and Piggie books. They love to read them with partners, and it is so nice to see everyone engaged with classmates, laughing, and enjoying books. These books help students of all levels to practice their reading skills, whether they are working on learning new sight words or reading with expression.

For this project, I want to have students work with a partner to prepare a reader's theater puppet show for our Kindergarten students.

Partners will be able to choose an Elephant and Piggie book to make into a performance for their younger peers. They will get to practice their reading fluency by rereading the book with the purpose of making sure they know all the words and can read the book fluently so the Kindergarteners can enjoy the stories as much as they do.

They will also get to focus on the setting of the books and doing some art by working together to create the backdrops for the puppet shows. Our students will have so much fun together doing a Spring project that gives them a chance to incorporate literature, art and drama and builds our school community.
