There are 46 wonderful second-grade students in my dual language classes who spend half of their instructional day in an English-speaking classroom and the other half in a Mandarin-speaking classroom. They learn every subject in both languages and they work very hard every day.
My students love art, music, science, hands-on activities, and creating unique art pieces that combine colors, words, and ideas in a supportive classroom.
They enjoy coming to school and want to be the best they can be. Best of all, they can read, write, and speak in two languages!
My Project
Financial literacy should start at an early age. With "Color Me Piggy Banks," each second grader in my class will have the opportunity to paint and prize their own piggy banks and collect money at home.
The home-school connection will allow my students to interact with real money, and to learn about saving and counting skills.
Additionally, it is significant that students make real-world connections to academic learning. This project extends the Mathematics curriculum both within and beyond our classroom. Since students have their own piggy bank to design and take home, these piggies will help lay the foundation for financial literacy, life skills, and saving and setting financial goals for my students both now and into the future!
Additionally, the study shows that students need multiple practices to master math skills. The erasable markers and erasers will help the students for practicing essential mathematic skills in small groups or independently. Thank you for your consideration.
