Pig Heart Dissection

My students need 50 pig hearts to get a better understanding of how the heart is designed and functions.

My Students

The heart is one of the most important organs in the human body. The ability to understand how the heart works is important to be able to take care of your heart, your health and well being, and to discover the importance of the heart to the human body.

My students live in a rural community in Arkansas.

They are ethnically diverse, and their ages range from 11 to 13 years old. Their economic level ranges from poverty to middle class. My students are eager to learn and excited about hands-on projects.

My Project

The ability for each student to experience the heart dissection could possibly be the only opportunity for these children to do this. I feel that by this experience it could, not only, teach them the anatomy of the heart but may also help to create an understanding of the importance of their own bodies. The students will learn the function and anatomy of the heart along with being able to have hands-on and group studying to help each other, and they will also learn to work as a team and share information with each other.

This donation is not only important for the class but for each student individually.

At this age, students are still influenced by their experiences, and one project could make a difference. The ability for students to participate in dissections will not only benefit them now, but also as they get older. The impact of this project could put numerous students on the road to science, medicine, and a number of other careers which allows them to give back to their community!
