Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are always excited to start a new art project! Many of them do not have access to art supplies at home, so my classroom is the only place they have that offers them the opportunity to create art using all different materials. Despite their personal hardships, they come to class excited to see what they will create! I love when they tell me that they wish they could come to art everyday and that they love my projects! They become very excited when they are given a choice to choose multiple materials, and painting is everyone’s favorite! The printer will provide them with a color reference picture, something they do not have access to anywhere in the school. They will also be able to print out pictures to use at home to help strengthen their drawing skills. They are always excited to show me the art work that they have created at home. It truly makes me feel great to know that they are anxious to share their creativity with me!
My Project
As with most artists, my students often struggle with drawing objects accurately and realistically. I show them how a reference picture can help an artist to draw accurately. I do not have a printer in my Art Room and have very limited access to a color printer. Having a color printer in my classroom would allow my students to have immediate access to the pictures they need. The printer will help the students to continue their project without having to wait until the next time they have art to get the reference picture. The additional ink will provide many more students the opportunity to print a reference picture for their project.
