My Students

Pictures are an important tool in developing language and literacy skills in non-readers. Have you ever had to comprehend content that you couldn't read? Do pictures help you follow written instructions? Boardmaker will provide materials to help my students meet their language and literacy goals.

I teach kindergarten in Oklahoma.

The variety of learners in my classroom includes readers and non-readers. Despite their differences, they all deserve positive learning experiences. These children need a solid foundation as they journey to becoming independent readers.

My Project

Boardmaker is technology that allows you to create visual schedules, interactive books and games that help address student's language and literacy goals through instruction that fits their learning needs. Routine and structure are important components of successful classrooms. Early learners need clear directions to be able to work independently. Boardmaker will enable children to have visual schedules so that they can work independently without interrupting for repeated directions while the teacher works with other students. The visual schedules will also support children who need to know the structure of their day in order to function academically. This software will also allow our school speech-language pathologist to create communication boards and books for our students who are nonverbal.

Children need structure and routine in order to feel safe in the classroom.

Boardmaker will give them the opportunity as non-readers to understand their daily schedule, events, and directions so they can focus their attention on their learning!
