My students need cameras and accessories to help capture their creativity and interactions on film; the pictures they take will be used for observations, conversations and more.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Scelza's classroom raised $420

My Students
If a picture is worth a thousand words, imagine how amazing it would be for the students to take their own pictures, print them, and talk to their teachers, parents or friends about what they are. With a large amount of ELL students, these cameras will be a valuable tool for all their hard work.
For the past 15 years I have worked at my school as one of the Pre-K teachers.
Our school is a high needs, low income Title I school in NYC. My four- and five-year-old are amazing children! Many of these students have never been in school before and have limited to no English when they start in September. They are creative, fun, energetic, and love to see themselves in pictures.
My Project
Using these cameras will allow the students to take their own photos and talk about them. After creating something in blocks or Magnet Tiles, the students will be able to use a camera (they will take the photo) to capture it. We will also be using these cameras to take action shots of the students on the playground and/or around the school. These photos will elicit many conversations and hopefully help the non-verbal students become more involved in classroom discussions earlier than before. We can create picture books in class, write our own stories and add photos to support them, or just celebrate all their hard work by displaying the pictures around the room.
Learning a new language at such a young age is hard enough.
These cameras will give them another outlet to spark conversation. Allowing the children to use these cameras will give them a sense of responsibility and pride. It will also give them the opportunity to share what they have created with the class and spark large and small group discussions while helping them become more comfortable using the language.
