Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Children are such special little people that soak up everything around them, like sponges! Too often, children are in circumstances that are beyond their control. As a teacher in a poverty stricken area, a lot of my own money is spent in the classroom. Some students live with the bare necessities to have a normal life. I feel compelled to help them be as normal as possible while at school. Children need and deserve every opportunity to express and be themselves!

I love my kids because they are innocent, they are expressive and their hearts are pure..

My goal everyday is to make sure my kids feel loved, secure and happy. My class is filled with lots of love, support and hope that things can and will get better simply because all children deserve the best!

Having less things than others doesn't make my children less than others, it makes them need more access and more opportunities just to live a normal life.

My Project

Every year I start my class with a photo of each student, documenting the first day of first grade- the families are super excited! The picture displays help parents easily identify their child's work or precious art pieces. I like the cute little faces that adorn the hallway for all to see! By using pictures the students can easily identify their work and this makes them so proud to share with others. I like to show pride in my displays so my students know that I care about them and the effort they made to do their best to complete the assignment.

Math is a subject that most students enjoy and love to participate in, especially when tactile pieces are apart of the task!

Math is fun and interactive, these kits will allow the students to use the materials in stations with the teacher, in small groups, with a buddy or alone- they will have fun and learn at the same time! And of course, I'll be taking pictures to put in cute portfolios for all to see.
