This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are as diverse as is our world. The majority are new immigrants whose families have fled countries in turmoil in order to escape war, famine, and uncertainly. Others are from families who work in service-related jobs who have suffered significantly during COVID because of exposure to the disease and because their families' already meager income was reduced even more due to business closures and resulting job losses.
My students are curious, fun, and eager to learn.
They enjoy all kinds of hands-on discovery projects. They appreciate opportunities that show them novel and unique aspects of learning, based on real-world events and pragmatic experiences they all have shared in their young lives.
What amazes me most about my students is the infectious excitement they display when they grasp a new understanding and realize the personal possibilities this brings them. It gives me great hope that many of them will become the next generation of great American innovators and thinkers.
My Project
I try to give my students equitable learning opportunities to empower them with the information they will need today as well as in the future to succeed and thrive.
My students will be able to quickly compute mathematical computations, such as exponents, factoring, as well as algebraic expressions, all with the use of this solar power calculator.
This one simplistic device will coalesce with their own understanding, competence, and proficiency.
This mathematical tool will enable students to engage in higher-order thinking such as solving problems, exploring mathematical patterns, conducting investigations, and working with real-world data.
The use of a calculator can benefit all students, including those with learning disabilities who might otherwise be unable to participate in engaging math activities.
