This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are living examples of perseverance, tenacity, and beating the odds. I work with an at-risk population for several of my scholars who live in poverty, come from single parent households, and live in drug and gang-infested neighborhoods. Despite what they experienced at home and what they see in their neighborhood, they each aspire to have more for themselves. Many of them aspire to be the first in their family to attend and graduate from college.

Surrounded by failing schools, their hard work and determination truly sets them apart from the rest, as they consistently outperform their peers at other schools from similar environments.

My Project

Our school has a very rich culture. Unfortunately, over the years the memories and class legacies have been left to be told by word of mouth because we do not have a yearbook. Many of the staff, students, and parents have expressed to me how they would love to have a yearbook because the school hasn't had one in several years.

If there is not a picture, did it really happen?

My goal is to compile all of the pictures throughout the year into one book and give to scholars at the end of the year. The problem is currently all photos have been taken on cell phones, which can be poor quality. We need cameras to make sure this yearbook is one that includes quality photos of the year.
