This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My STEM students are an energetic group that loves to learn! They start each day with a bright smile and an eagerness to know what the day will bring. My students are from a very small community in Michigan. They all qualify for free breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner.
Life is not always easy for our students, but they come to school with a smile on their faces each day and a thirst for learning.
They leave each day feeling proud of what they've accomplished.
My Project
I teach STEM class once a week for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students.
Research supports the importance of reading stories aloud to students and after attending a conference over the summer, I incorporated picture books into many of my STEM challenges this year.
It has been a success and I would like to build on this!
The National Science Teacher's Association has developed many STEM lessons that match the grade level science standards and focus on a picture book. This kit would provide me with 30 different lessons and picture books to go with them. Many of my picture book challenges have focused on the engineering aspect of STEM. This kit would help me incorporate more of the science standards as well as provide the important read aloud before the challenge.
Thank you for making my STEM class the best that it can be!
