I am a second year art teacher of approximately 900 K-5 students who love to learn about artists and the art that they make. I would like to use my students' interests to encourage them to read more, and feel that a library of art books within our art room would help facilitate this. The library would include books about artists, art history, and art techniques. I would also like to include Caldecott award winners and other well-illustrated picture books. This collection of books will be accessible to all students as well as classroom teachers on a daily basis throughout the school year. The benefits I expect to reap are a student body well-read and well-versed in the world of art, improved reading skills, and increased cross-curricular partnering between myself and the regular classroom teachers in my school. I would like to start building this library with a varied selection of art books for children and will add to it as I am able. My students are always excited when I bring a new book to class, so I know they would love to see an entire library in their art room!
