My Students

Picture It! Our writing and reading scores through the roof! They aren't yet, but they will be with our project digital camera!

I teach in a 5th grade Multilevel classroom.

Demographically the school is high poverty, 96% free and reduced lunch. The students do not get their experiences from travel and outside worldly activities. As their teacher, it is my goal to provide them with every outstanding experience I possibly can.

My Project

Our writing scores and reading scores need a little boost. We are getting this camera because I need a new way to get the students interested in what they write. The idea behind this project is, each student will get one day/night with the camera to take pictures. With the pictures they take, the students will write stories, narratives, instructions, poems, and many many other different writing assignments. The pictures will be the spark that helps to ignite their creative flames! We will also be using the camera as a way of documenting our class adventures.

What makes this project important?

Most of the children in my class have never used a digital camera let alone have televisions in their household. Each child will have the opportunity to show us an everyday adventure in their lives through pictures and writing. This extra added interest in what and how they are writing will help greatly with their reading/writing scores.
