Most of my students have come to this country from Mexico or from Central or South America. They have endured much to get here, and many have been separated from family and loved ones. One of my students even had to leave her beloved kitten behind. They have come to a new country with very little and yet they persevere.
My students are inspiring because they continue to dream and look toward the future despite experiencing the worst of humanity.
They are determined to learn English and are constantly working as hard as they can to progress. I am in awe of their bravery when trying to communicate in a language they just started learning months, days, or even hours earlier. They want to connect and they want to grow their knowledge of English. These picture dictionaries will be an invaluable tool in ensuring they have the words they need to succeed when they transition from our newcomer program.
