As an elementary, school-based, speech-language pathologist, I work with students in preschool - fifth grade classes. The students are diagnosed with Autism, Down syndrome, Speech and Language Delays, Intellectual Disabilities, and Developmental Delays. Many of my students are nonverbal or minimally verbal and use technology, manual communication boards, and pictures to make their wants and needs known.
My students inspire me every single day with how hard they work to achieve something most people take for granted, communication at even the most basic level.
My Project
Beginning with my preschool students, many students on my caseload have difficulty producing age-appropriate sounds thereby making their speech difficult to understand. This can lead to frustration, decreased self-esteem, and social isolation.
I do my best to combat this, but I need your help!
I don't have the materials I need to target each of the speech sounds or the phonological processes my students need.
When my students come to therapy, they work so hard to improve their speech sounds, overall intelligibility, and communication skills. But we need these materials to facilitate progress.
In addition to these materials targeting speech sounds, they can also be used to target language skills (vocabulary, basic concepts, categories, etc.), and social skills (turn-taking, appropriate requesting, etc.)
