This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I’m excited to share an opportunity to make a lasting impact on my 5th graders’ learning and love of reading and writing! Watching my students connect with stories and then bring their own ideas to life through writing is truly one of the most rewarding parts of my teaching!

The books on this list will serve as mentor texts, helping students recognize the narrative hook, conflict, characters, plot, setting, theme, point of view, and descriptive details through clear examples of strong writing.

Each story is unique, yet all include these essential elements, making them ideal for teaching literature and guiding students as they develop their own narratives.

My goal is to create a classroom library of carefully selected picture books that will guide students in understanding key story elements and inspire their own writing. Your support will directly provide engaging samples, giving my students access to rich text that will grow their reading comprehension, writing skills, and love of storytelling.

With these books, my classroom library will be a place where stories come alive, and students are empowered to become confident readers and writers!
