My Students
I am a high school librarian at a selective enrollment public high school located in the Englewood neighborhood on Chicago's South Side.
Our students come primarily from South Side communities and are some of the best and brightest students in Chicago.
Sixty percent of the students at my school come from low-income homes. At our school, students stretch themselves to learn more about themselves and each other.
My Project
Picture books are powerful and engaging learning tools, even for high school students.
The books I've selected will be used for multiple purposes, including to introduce poetry, creative writing, rhetorical appeals, and other concepts to students.
These books will be also used by students in our special education cluster program so that they can participate in independent reading. They will also be available to students who want an engaging book to read to a younger sibling. By including diverse perspectives in every section of our library, students will have a variety of opportunities to connect with literature and ideas.
