Picture Book-a-Palooza!

Help me give my students amazing texts within our classroom. My students love so many of these books and I would love to have them accessible all the time!

My Students

Our elementary school is located right in the middle of a major Big 10 university area, so diversity is a large part of our everyday life. We have students from many different countries all coming together in one, big, classroom family. Creating a space that caters to all learners is a priority in my classroom. I am always looking for ways to make my classroom as inclusive as possible. In first grade, students are still very active, young people! Ensuring that our young learners still experience play-based learning as well as have the opportunity for the movement and stimulation they need is always a priority.

My Project

In first grade my students are still learning to read, but that does not mean that we can't also read to learn! I use informational texts as well as fiction texts on a daily basis to help my students learn new concepts in a fun and memorable way. I can't tell you how many times I have had a student mention a specific book when I am teaching a lesson because they are recalling previous knowledge and linking it to new material, all because of a mentor text!

I would love to have these amazing mentor texts in my classroom to help my students continue to learn and grow through literature.

Social and emotional skills are a large part of growing and developing at this age level. Social stories are a phenomenal way to address things like anger, anxiety, and worrying with students. Something as small as reading them these texts often leads to much bigger discussions about how a student may be feeling.

Please help me bring these educational texts, both educational and emotional, to my students to help our classroom continue to grow and develop!
