My Students
My students are very diverse in cultural backgrounds and abilities. We have a 30% English language learners and high poverty rate at our school. We also have 20% with learning disabilities that are in inclusion classes. I teach mixed coed physical education classes with a focus on cooperative games and fitness.
At our school, we emphasize good sportsmanship and team building strategies.
We encourage all students, regardless of abilities, to participate in a wide variety of physical activities. My goal is to provide my students to a wide variety of physical fitness activities and social learning opportunities.
My Project
We want to offer our students diverse opportunities for physical activity before and after school. When the weather turns cold, we know that many of our students will need a safe place to wait for their siblings to get out of school before escorting them home. They also need healthy, active and fun alternatives to playing on their phones and gaming.
Pickleball is a great beginner-friendly sport that will allow our students to get together in our gym before or after school for fun, exercise and social interaction during cold-weather months.
Because Pickleball is well-suited to kids and adults alike, it is one of the fastest growing sports in the country. We hope our students will come and learn...and then teach their families to play! Physical activities like Pickleball, help students build confidence, find enjoyment in exercise, and build positive relationships with others in the school community.
