Picking Up the Pieces, Re-Organizing After Hurricane Florence
Help me give my students two sets of math center games for grades 2-3 and 4-5, along with seat sacks, to help differentiate instruction and organize our materials!
I teach a self-contained classroom of 11 curious kiddos! My students are a kind, impulsive, energetic, funny, and caring group of students. Their disabilities severely affect their behavior. My classroom is the designated classroom in the region to teach students who are not able to function in a general education setting. Through social skills instruction and behavior interventions, we are working on creating a classroom community of helpers, learners, and model citizens. I enjoy every day with my students and hope to further their knowledge not only in the classroom but the community.
My Project
Teaching a multi-grade, self-contained classroom centered towards students with emotional disturbances means I have a classroom of up to 12 students with a wide range of academic abilities. The materials I am requesting through this project will help me differentiate instruction to my academically and intellectually gifted students, as well as my hard-working students who are struggling to learn grade level material.
The math materials I had originally created were thrown out after Hurricane Florence impacted our area because they were too damaged to use.
The math folder game libraries will help reinforce previously learned math skills, aligned to the Common Core. Having a set for grades 2-3 and grades 4-5 will help me differentiate instruction and meet the needs of each individual learner in my classroom. Despite their different learning styles, each one of my students enjoys building and creating. The KEVA Maze Bots and Snap Circuit kits will help create opportunities for enriching my students' learning by giving them the opportunities to generate their own mazes and explore the energy involved in circuits.
The seat sacks and storage drawers will help us organize our materials as we pick up the pieces that were left in my classroom in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.
