"Where we start is not where we will finish," is the perfect statement to describe my students. They are often thought of as trouble-makers; however, my students are bright and want to learn. We work hard to dispel that stereotype.
The students in my class are economically challenged.
Despite this set back, I have seen some students come in below grade-level and leave scholars. However, it took a lot of work on their part. My school is in an inner city neighborhood and there are many who believe the only way out is through sports but I say NO.
My Project
There are many bad eating habits that my students have picked up over the years. They eat chips and soda for breakfast. Salty, spicy, fried food are purchased before school. Students buy and drink Gatorade without athletic activities to avoid drinking water all throughout the day and candy is considered an afternoon snack.
However, the best way to get rid of on bad habit is to put up a better one.
I am asking for a mini-fridge and healthier beverage options and snack for my students. I believe when they know better they WILL make better food choice. For example, drinking coconut water which is great for hydration without artificial colors or sweeteners. My students will see that granola bars with whole grains are better than chocolate bars.
More than half of students from low‑income households
