Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students range from Pre-K to 5th grade. We are a low income, mostly Hispanic elementary school. Our kids are active and love learning. However, reading is a struggle for them. We are trying to motivate our kids to not only read more, but to fall in love with reading. It will help them build their English vocabulary, and support them in becoming life long learners. They are so appreciative of everything they receive and would really love your support.
My Project
Students at my school have become so accustomed to only reading for test purposes that the love of reading has fallen away. We are trying to bring that back, starting with these amazing Bluebonnet book award winners. Help my students fall in love with reading again. I want them to enjoy picking up a book and be able to go all over the world in their imaginations. By using the Bluebonnet book list, that includes titles like, "The Girl Who Drank the Moon" and "Maybe a Fox," I am able to get a variety of books for all my students and able to meet them all their varied reading levels. When a child loves to read, it makes falling in love with other subjects easier.
