Although all of my students have different academic needs, one thing that they all have in common is their love for learning! With the new common core standards, teachers are preparing students for college when they are in kindergarten.
I teach a class full of students who are eager to learn!
I have ten students, 2 first graders and 8 second graders. Many of my students have more than one disability. 2 of my students have Autism as a primary disability with a Speech and Language Impairment as a secondary disability, 4 of my students have a primary disability of Speech and Language Impairment, and 4 of my students have a Specific Learning Disability Although my school is not a Title I school, many of my students are bussed into school because the Special Education program they are in is not offered at their home school. Therefore the students vary in socioeconomic status.
My Project
The one size fits all phrase does not apply to everyone. Everyone learns in their own unique way. Having a wide variety of seating choices will allow the students to find what learning tool works best for them. Do they need to wobble in their stools, kick the foot bands, wiggle on a cushion, or kneel while they are on the carpet or working in a small group? Not every student can sit and learn in the typical classroom set up of a desk and chair. Allowing the students to explore the different seating choices will help them to decide what is the best tool that they need to be a successful learner in the classroom.
As an educator it is my job to help students find the best learning style that works for them.
I want to provide a variety of seating choices for students where they can choose to sit, stand, or kneel to learn and complete work. This will make learning a much for comfortable environment.
